The passage of time will not lessen the pain. You will still feel it, all of it. It is obviously not an easy task to face at any moment of your life. Yet, it is a necessary process if we are ever going to heal from it.
It may feel embarrassing to be still so hurt by something you thought you've forgotten after all these years. To feel silly to be crying like that small child that you were when you experienced it, yet it is not. Not when you have never truly allowed yourself to purge that hurt from your soul.
Over the years, many of us were conditioned to feel ashamed about this, to think this way... By whom?
Ironically, it is by the people who inflicted this pain on us.
They either did not want to acknowledge, admit or see that they hurt us. In turn, we felt that maybe we were being weak or ridiculous for feeling this way.
So we denied ourselves the chance to explore and understand where this hurt came from.
We were denied the chance to declare that what was done to us was wrong.
We were denied the chance to finally let it go and heal.
Most importantly, we were denied the chance to be whole, so that we may be there for our future, our children.
