My daughters invested in VIP tickets. The price may have been steep but, worth bypassing those long lines to see a celebrity at a panel, photo ops and authographs. Especially over the course of three days. I think I can only take one day of the crowds. I am slightly agoraphobic, in fact I had a moment where I suddenly felt dizzy and faint. The convention was packed. However it was fun to see so many awesome cosplay costumes at the convention. There are alot of talented creative people who put alot of work into thier costumes. It was so cool to see them and I took a few pics but I wasn't patient enough because of the crowds freaking me out a bit.
ANYWHO, the one celebrity I was looking forward to seeing was Wil Wheaton! As I was getting ready I was jokingly telling my family how I had to put make up for Wil Wheaton and fix my hair pretty for Wil Wheaton and wear brand new jeans for Wil Wheaton! My poor hubby had to put up with that before we left for the day.
Now as much as William Shatner is cool and the big dood to see at this convention (I saw a glimpse of him passing by before his panel session), I was seriously looking forward to see Wil Wheaton. I had a MAJOR crush on him since seeing him in Stand by Me and then in Star Trek the Next Generation.
He is a great speaker, so witty and charming. I really wanted to see him in person so I bought a ticket for a photo op with him. I also wanted to get an autograph but my boy was sick of lines and honestly, so was I. So the photo op was my chance to see him in person!
Secretly I was hoping to make an impression and he'd be like: "Omg u are so cool! and I wanna be ur friend so lets hang out!" (stalker much huh?) Well that's not how it happened. Luna and Tye were around to join me for the photo op and we were told that he doesn't like to be touched (who could blame him, meeting hundreds of ppl, the last thing you wanna do is get groped by a bunch of strangers). I was all nervous to see him in person, they sent us in and I said hi and introduced my kids, stood next to him, smiled for the camera and thanked him and left.
Lame huh? not even close to what I envisioned. He wasn't lame, don't get me wrong, it's just that a bunch of people want to take thier pic with him and I am only a random face in a crowd of faces. PLUS when I got home, I realised that I didn't even introduce myself. How stupid is that?!
Well maybe one day I'll get my chance to chitchat with him and then he will find me so cool that he'll want to hang out with me and we could be friends... It could happen... someday...
Pfffffft!
He is quite the nerd and geek. I say that with the utmost respect. Because I am nerd myself, my geekage however, is a little watered down.
Well all in all, it was a nice day. I am glad I didn't get the three day pass. One day is enough for me. Hence my geekage being watered down. I am too old for lines and crowds, I'll leave that to my girls.
